Freddie Roach Shades Josh Taylor!
Undisputed junior welterweight champion Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (18-0, 13KOs) has become a star in the sport of boxing in a span of four years. Back in May, he would wage battle with then unified WBC and WBO junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez (26-1, 17KOs). In a tantalizing battle, the Scottish fighter would walk away as the winner and new undisputed junior welterweight champion.
Still, with all of his accomplishments, it doesn’t seem to be enough for famed trainer Freddie Roach to acknowledge him. In an interview with iFL TV, the California-based trainer would be asked his thoughts on a possible fight between Manny Pacquiao, who’s fighting Yordenis Ugas on August 21, and Taylor. To which, he replied, “Who’s Josh Taylor?”
TAYLOR RESPONDS!
The undisputed junior welterweight champion responded on his Twitter saying that Roach knew who he was. He’s absolutely correct! Roach knows him very well, considering that Taylor just beat and gave one his former fighters, Ramirez, his first loss. He also gave former IBF junior welterweight champion Ivan Baranchyk his first loss, back in 2019 in their Semifinal WBSS matchup.
Roach, who loves to talk trash just as much as the fighters do, could be playing mind games. As long as Pacquiao continues to win and fight, a bout with Taylor will remain very intriguing.
