Knockout CP Freshmart v Erick Rosa WBA Unification Nearly Done

The WBA ‘regular’ minimumweight champ Erick Rosa (5-0, 1KO) has spent much of 2022 on a mission to fight one of the elite fighters at 105 pounds. He gets that opportunity as his ordered fight with WBA Super champ Knockout CP Freshmart (24-0, 9KOs) is one step closer to being a done deal.

There was a mutual agreement for the two to fight in the United States earlier this year. But, there were mitigating issues preventing that from becoming a reality, chiefly Freshmart’s inability to obtain a VISA. As a result, things ultimately went to a purse bid.

MATTER SETTLED

During this week’s WBA convention in Orlando, Florida, the official bid for the fight was held. Freshmart’s promoter, Petchinydee, won out by bidding $140,000. Per WBA rules, the super champ receives 75 percent of the bid, while Rosa will receive 25 percent.

Freshmart is currently the longest-reigning minimumweight world champion. He is coming off a decision win over countryman and ex-long reigning WBC 105 pound champion Wanheng Menayothin in July 2022. Rosa has been out of action since December 2021, when he captured the WBA ‘regular’ strap with a split decision victory over Vic Saludar.

There has been no official date and location announced for Freshmart – Rosa. With Freshmart and his promotional team from Thailand, expect the fight to happen in the home country of the Super champ. The early word is that the bout will occur either in February or March 2023.
