Tyson Fury Announces New Trainer

In a bit of somewhat shocking news, Tyson “Gypsy King” Fury (29-0-1, 20 KO’s) parted ways with his trainer Ben Davison. Professionally speaking, the two enjoyed something of a whirlwind romance. When Fury was down in the dumps, over weight and sitting out of the sport, Davison was instrumental in getting him back in the ring.

After naming Davison as his official chief second, the two shared three wins and a draw together. For a brief period of time, the two appeared to be a tight-knit unit both professionally and personally. Nevertheless, with only two months remaining until his much talked about rematch with Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-0-1, 41 KO’s), Fury has made some major alterations to his team.

Seeking to return to his past in order to secure his future, the Gypsy King has chosen Javan “Sugar” Hill as his new lead trainer. Hill is the nephew of famed late boxing trainer Emmanuel Stewart. Back before the passing of Stewart, Fury had history training in the Kronk gym and it would seem he has rekindled that relationship. The Gypsy King unveiled this meaningful modification via his Twitter account.

The timing of the switch is curious to say the least. Generally speaking, it typically takes a number of fights before a new coach and fighter can really gel to the point that their training manifests in the squared-circle. It will be interesting to see what Fury and Sugar Hill can come up with in such a short span of time.
