Galal Yafai Ready For Edwards After Beating Sergio Orozco
In a pointless stay-busy fight flyweight contender Galal Yafai made quick work of Sergio “Kid” Orozco in three rounds. Now he must get ready to take on one-time IBF champion “Showtime” Sunny Edwards (21-1, 4KO)
Yafai (8-0, 6KO) fought like someone who wanted to get some rounds, as he mostly moved around and landed one shot at a time. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist was levels above his Mexican opponent.
As the fight went on he picked up the pace and started landing hard shots to the body and the head. Realizing Orozco (9-9, 7KO) was ready to go, Yafai turned up the offense and landed a three-punch combination that ultimately ended the fight.
With this fight in the books, all focus is on the upcoming showdown against one-time IBF champion. These two have a deep history that goes back to the amateurs.
They’ve sparred with each other and Edwards holds a victory over the undefeated fighter in the amateurs. To add more spice to their upcoming matchup the WBC interim title will be on the line.
With the WBC championship title vacant the winner could be elevated to champion or contend for title next.
