Ryan Garcia Defends Arch-Rival Haney
Golden Boy Promotions top lightweight prospect Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (20-0, 17ko) has been in a long back and forth beef with arch-rival WBC champion “In-recess” Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15ko). Furthermore, the history between these two can be linked back to their days in the amateur circuit.
Although both fighters are currently professional prizefighters, their career paths are intertwined even on the professional level. The champion “In-recess” would become the youngest promoter in boxing, while his counterpart is being groomed as the heir to the Canelo Alvarez thrown.
A BRIEF LOOK BACK
A rivalry is just that. It doesn’t matter how much time has elapsed, the feelings are still there. Moreover, even on the professional level, things only intensify. The champion “In-recess” hasn’t been shy at all about taking liberties with calling out his arch-rival. Then, of course, there is the ultimate insult a fighter can make about another in calling them a “DUCKER”.
Kingry wasn’t about to back down and isn’t short on confidence about his ability. Furthermore, the young prospect isn’t impressed with the accomplishment of his arch-rival and feels the champion “In-recess” needs to prove himself.
Even now, things continue to stay heated between the two fighters. Garcia, made the boxing community aware of a text message he received from Haney saying “Ima fuck u up just letting u know.”
SHOWING CHARACTER
Okay, this is where things went off the rails.
The champion “In-recess” has been playing damage control over a recent statement made during an interview with 78sports Tv. Moreover, his taking a page from the book of Bernard Hopkins’ “I’ll never lose to a white boy” famous quote is turning the heat up on team Haney.
Although some feel it was an attempt to bait unified champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomchenko (14-1, 10ko) into a fight, there are several inside the community that feel it was a step too far across the racial barrier.
However, an unlikely ally has arisen. Given the elaborate history between these two aforementioned fighters, in a surprising tweet, Garcia was the voice of reason.
