Ryan Garcia Renews Challenge to Tank Davis

When Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KO’s) laid waste to Rolando Romero, it was their second attempt at facing one another. Despite agreeing to go to war and signing on the dotted line, their initial bout was demolished when Romero came under legal fire and Showtime Boxing got nervous.

Rather than finding themselves on the wrong side of public scandal, they chose to scrap the match and distance themselves from the verbose fighter. Ultimately all the accusations that were brought against Romero were invalidated and dismissed. Once done, he and Tank signed on to fight each other again and the second match went on without any further complications. Now, lightweight sensation Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (22-0, 18 KO’s) is hoping that he can receive this same type of good fortune.

I’M STILL HERE!

Garcia and Davis at one point appeared to be racing toward a showdown with one another. The two had gone public with their interest and Garcia made a viral appearance on Hot Boxin with Mike Tyson where he called for the duel. While it’s not clear how much tangible negotiations were done, it seems evident that bickering over who was the bigger star prevented anything substantial from happening.

In any case, the bout never transpired. Outside of squabbling at the negotiation table, Garcia walked away for a supposed fight with Manny Pacquiao that never took place either. Now, while talking about Davis’s memorable one-punch knockout of Romero while going live, King Ry let it be known he wants back into the Tank business.

“You knocked him down, now let’s go see if you can knock me down, Tank! Tank knows what’s the deal. You heard him, he was calling me out, he was like, ‘you next, you next.’ That’s kind of word for word what he said, pretty much. But I am going to crack him, beat him!”

WHAT’S THE NEXT MOVE?!

While Garcia does not hold a title, he is still a huge name in the division and represents a big-time fight. This is why it’ll be revealing to see how Tank responds to King Ry renewing his interest in them dancing in the squared-circle. Who knows, this could be a major late-year showdown just itching to happen! Let’s wait and see how it all plays out.
