Garcia decides to elude the pressure from the IBF by vacating the title!

3KingsBoxing has learned Mikey Garcia has vacated the IBF lightweight title. The IBF has now ordered a fight between the IBF mandatory challenger Richard Commey (27-2, 24KO) and #3 ranked Isa Chaniev of Russia.

In August, the IBF ordered Garcia to make a defense against Commey. According to Commey’s promoter Lou Dibella, Garcia agreed to and signed a deal for the fight. However, the signed contract was not submitted to the IBF in time.

This prompted the scheduled purse bid for October 30 for 12 PM ET at the IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey. With the former unified champion deciding to relinquish the belt, the purse bid is now cancelled

Previously, 3KingsBoxing.com reported on a deal with IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence close to being finalized for early 2019. This could indeed be the reasoning for Garcia’s decision to vacate his title.

The bottom line, despite being ordered to and signing a deal to fight Commey, Garcia had an ulterior motive. He has only one thing on his mind right now and that is shooting for glory in a showdown with Errol Spence!
