Is Tank Davis Suggesting He Will Stay with Mayweather Promotions?

There is no denying that Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s) is a huge name in the sport of boxing. Naturally, his skill and many exciting knockouts have helped to contribute to this popularity. Another colossal portion of this success and notoriety has come from being groomed under the Mayweather Promotions banner. Despite their time and successful partnership together however, Tank has decided that he is breaking away from his long-time promoter to blaze his own trail.

Or, maybe he isn’t going anywhere!

ARE YOU IN OR OUT?!

In his next in-ring contest, on June 28, Davis will face the challenge of Rolando Romero, who he’s shared an online rivalry with for some time. Throughout the fight week media obligations, Tank has supplied countless interviews and said numerous times he was definitely leaving his promotional outfit behind.

Yet, in the last day or so, his tune has changed. Tank has resumed lathering his handlers in praise and listing them as the best team in boxing. Naturally, this will lead many to speculate that he will not be leaving after all.

“I ain’t going to lie, I still feel like I got the best team in boxing as far as Mayweather Promotion, Al Haymon, my personal team. I feel like I got the best team in boxing and I really mean it.

“So, I feel like whatever decision we make after this I am all for it because I feel as though we come up with the best plans, as planned as a team, and we execute our game plan.”

PROOF IN THE PUDDING

It will be interesting to see what Tank ultimately does once his duel with Romero is in the books. For many fans, the biggest motivation to see Davis leave was to see how, or if, his level of competition would stiffen. The main gripe about Davis from the fans and boxing insiders is their wanting to see him take on bigger and more difficult challenges. If he did officially leave Mayweather Promotions then the world would have a chance to see if it actually was the promoters feeding him softer touches or if this was truly Davis’s own desire all along.

Yet, if he opts to remain with the Money Team then, unless his match-making becomes notably more strenuous, we will still will not discover who is the wrench in that production. In the end, as it always is, we will all just have to wait and see how this pans out. Luckily, 3Kings Boxing will be there to report the news!
