Gonzalez vs Guevara possible on final HBO card!
3kingsboxing previously reported former four-division champion Roman Gonzalez (47-2, 39KOs) would fight on the last HBO televised boxing match December 8.
We have now learned the front-runner for his next opponent is former WBC light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara (32-3-1, 19KOs).
The former #1 pound for pound fighter is looking regain glory in a heavily competitive division. Back-to-back losses to current WBC champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai saw him removed from his throne.
The 31 year-old Nicaraguan took one year off to rebuild himself mentally. He then returned with a spectacular knockout victory over Moises Fuentes in September. A quality victory here is paramount as he hopes to obtain a trilogy with Rungvisai.
Guevara (29), is no stranger to the moment. He is a former world champion and understands the importance of this opportunity.
The Mexican fighter is the WBC #5 rated competitor after losing his title in a very close fight to Ken Shiro. He moved up to capture the WBC FECARBOX title and is very capable of playing spoiler, especially with a possible title opportunity in 2019.
A decision on Gonzalez’s next opponent should come in the form of an announcement soon!
