Gregory Morales Earns A Good Victory Against Jayvon Garnett
In a featherweight showdown, Gregory “Goyo” Morales (17-1, 9KO) picked up the win against Jayvon “El Elegido” Garnett (10-2, 5KO).
Realizing El Elegido had been out of the ring for almost three years, Morales went to work behind an educated jab followed by hard body shots. Being the taller fighter, the Texan maintained distance and found a home for the right uppercuts.
Garnett wouldn’t go away easy and began throwing fast combination punches. He turned it up in the middle rounds with body shots and movement. This change-up of attack slowed down the offense of the younger fighter.
As the fight continued, Goyo threw out the gameplan of fighting from a distance and decided to fight down to the smaller man’s size. He went into attack mode and started landing several right hands.
The Ohioan took advantage of Morales’ poor decision and landed hard countershots. He used those years of experience sparring world-class fighters to make it an interesting battle.
Down the stretch, the Mexican took control of the fight by landing uppercuts and body shots that kept Garnett on the backfoot until the final bell. The judges scored it 99-91, 98-92, and 96-94 for Morales.
