Groves Believes DeGale Has Diminished Significantly

Groves clearly the A side to DeGale now?

Hot off the heels of his victory in the World Boxing Super Series Semi Final against Chris Eubank Jr. WBA ‘Super’ Champion George Groves (He has vacated the lightly regarded IBO Super Middleweight belt over a dispute on sanctioning fees). Has one eye on the WBSS Final, which we hope to see contested at London’s O2 Arena on June 2nd.

Should he be victorious he will add the WBC ‘Diamond’ Belt to his WBA ‘Super’ title and fights against WBO Champion David Benavidez and IBF Caleb Truax could very well materialise. But wherever Groves seems to go, one man’s name is never too far away from conversation. So what about a long awaited rematch with former IBF Champion, James DeGale?

Well it certainly seems as though Groves could well be up for the fight but he has made it very clear that he is the A Side now, and rightly so. I find it hard to argue that George Groves is the #1 Super Middleweight in the world right now, and ‘Saint’ Groves has made it clear that with DeGale’s stock has taking a huge hit in losing to Truax. The champion going as far as to say that his long term rival’s value has ‘diminished significantly’.

“DeGale will always be a good opponent, but as it stands right now, obviously after his last performance his value has diminished significantly. Even if he regains the IBF title, and does it behind closed doors in the states somewhere against a guy he should have beaten anyway in the first place, its going to make negotiations difficult.”

“But that fight, im sure he will be craving it. Will always be a good fight for me, so we will have to wait and see.”
