Devin Haney says Adrien Broner is little bro until they fight
In the sport of boxing, it is often required of fighters that they either face friends or former idols. In the case of WBC world lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15 KO’s), he is open to the option of dancing with both at the same time. A fight with former four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO’s) would satisfy both variables.
The notion of the pair of chums tangling with one another has been a floating talking point for quite a while. The biggest hindrance to the prizefight being realistic was the notion of weight. Broner has campaigned within the welterweight division for the past several years, while The Dream has operated several divisions down at lightweight.
I’LL PULL THE TRIGGER!
This is why Haney is open to a fight but does not exactly take the notion all that seriously. Now that Broner has teased that he will return to the ring competing at a lower weight class, the WBC champ has once again reaffirmed his interest in the bout. Yet, he did so in good humor when talking with Fight Hype.
“AB is someone I came up watching, I used to really, like, look up to him when I was coming up. I liked him. I’m mean I still like him, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I dislike him or anything like that. But that’s my little bro, I don’t want to do that to him!”
The Dream was providing his response to a recently posted snippet of a text thread that he had exchanged with Broner. The Problem threw the post up on his Instagram account.
GAME RECOGNIZE GAME
While it was plainly evident that Haney was having fun selling his woof tickets, it was equally clear that he was dead serious about praising Broner’s marketing savvy.
“You know About Bands? You know about that? Well it’s About Out of Business, so. He got to stay hot!”
“He smart though, he smart. That’s why he can come back after all this time and still get a big fight, easily!”
“You know, because he marketed himself well. AB could lose to you, AB could lose to somebody and still be bigger than the person he lost too! He lost to Shawn Porter and he is bigger than Shawn Porter still. He lost to Mikey Garcia, but he is still bigger than Mikey Garcia.”
LITTLE BRO
When it’s all said and done however, there is no way to accurately predict the next move of Adrien Broner. So all Haney can do is pass a message and have a laugh or two in the process.
“That’s my little bro, he little bro, until we fight that’s little bro.”
“He was big bro when he was doing his thing…he was big bro, but now he is little bro. When he was doing his thing he was hot… but now he little bro.”
“He told me he coming back at 135. He said he can make the weight.”
