Devin Haney continues his war of words with Teofimo Lopez
The latest installment of trash talk between lightweight world champions Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) and Teofimo “El Brooklyn” Lopez (15-0, 12KOs) has been kicked off by the WBC champ.
While in bed watching one of Lopez’s past fights, Haney made it a point to let the world know of his plans when the champions finally meet up in the squared circle.
“I’m going to beat the shit out of this flat footed bum”
Short and simple.
WHOSE THE MAN?
These two men have been embroiled in a social media fight for the last few weeks, throwing various virtual insults towards one another. Lopez doesn’t respect how Haney obtained his world title, labeling him an “email world champion”. Haney has hit back accusing Lopez of ducking him in a planned WBC four-man tournament.
Lopez did win his title over the very experienced and hard-hitting Richard Commey (29-3, 26KOs) in December of 2019. By comparison, to no fault of his own, Haney was hell bent of facing Vasyl Lomachenko (14-1, 10KOs). However, Lomachenko would be elevated to the WBC franchise champion. This would ultimately pave way for Haney being elevated to full champion after beating Zaur Abdullaev for the interim title back in September of 2019.
These two young fighters are supremely gifted and confident given how they’ve performed in the ring. There’s an obvious eagerness to get back in the ring and show the world who’s the top dog in the lightweight division. With no shortages of options, there should be no excuses as to why any of these fighters can’t get a big fight in the near future.
The talk is good and fun, but everyone will remember all the names being called out by these young fighters during this quarantine. Once officially lifted, fans and pundits alike will expect pen to paper when it’s really go time.
