Devin Haney claps back at Ryan Garcia –
WBC Lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (26-0, 15ko), after shaking off adversity in his fight against 3-divisional champion Jorge “El Nino De Oro” Linares (47-6, 29ko), is coming under heavy fire from rival Ryan “King Ry” Garcia.
THE ONGOING BEEF AND ITS HISTORY
The ongoing beef between the two fighters has lasted for almost two years. There was the time when both Haney and his father confronted Golden Boy Promotions top executive Bernard Hopkins. Garcia once claimed that he does not respect his divisional rival’s championship by saying he still had a lot to prove.
During the 2020 pandemic that stopped all fights from happening, King Ry revealed a text message from The Dream saying he was going to “fuck him up” once boxing resumes. So, this has been building for a long time. Garcia became the mandatory challenger to fight for Haney’s WBC title after defeating Luke Campbell for the WBC Interim title back on January 2. Fans thought we were going to see them finally get it on in the ring.
However, Garcia would shift gears by targeting a fight with two-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Yet, that was only until he pulled away from that fight to chase a fight with boxing legend Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao. However, after the Pac Man fight did not happen, Garcia was supposed to face Javier Fortuna. He pulled out of the fight citing mental depression, and he was stripped of the WBC interim title, which will now be included in the fight between Joseph “JoJo” Diaz and Fortuna.
WHAT STARTED THE CHAMPIONS SOCIAL MEDIA OUTBURST
Now, keep in mind the WBC champion fought out of character the whole fight. Instead of his usual boxing from a distance and playing it safe, he stayed in the pocket. By fighting this way, he presented opportunities for Linares, who landed a perfectly timed right hook-counter at the end of round ten that sent Haney staggering towards the corner.
In the last two rounds, The Dream would mount some offense. However, he mostly looked to grab and hold as his legs were still unstable. Well, Garcia took to social media with a video claiming he would have stopped the WBC champion.
“Good fight but, I am sorry Devin, but I would’ve KO’d you slept you.”
Of course, Haney responded with a series of clap-back burns of recent events. He referenced when Campbell dropped Garcia in their bout.
“…if Luke Campbell dropped you what would have Linares have done to you?”
Haney would follow up with even more posts. He mentioned how Garcia was supposed to have fought Linares but ducked him also.
“Let’s be real. You never wanted to fight Linares. You ducked him like you ducked me.”
However, Haney’s first clap-back comment probably was the most hard-hitting of them all.
