Devin Haney reinstated as WBC lightweight champion!

According to reports, Devin “The Dream” Haney (24-0, 15KOs) can now breathe a big sigh of relief as WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has reinstated the unbeaten 21 year old as the WBC lightweight champion.

In 2019 he was elevated to the full champion after unified champion Vasiliy Lomachenko was made the WBC franchise champion. In his first title defense, Haney won a dominant unanimous decision over Alfredo Santiago (12-1, 4KOs).

As this pertains to top contenders Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna, once slated to face each other for the vacant title while Haney would be left to be the immediate mandatory for the winner, will now be left to fight for the lesser interim version of the title.

The winner will be the mandatory challenger to fight the champ for the green belt. Conversely, Haney will get an opportunity to make a voluntary title defense.

It’ll be interesting to see how the champion looks as he underwent shoulder surgery nearly six months ago.

3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
