Heather Hardy to Face Terri Harper on March 12

Come March 12, we will witness two former world champions collide in a lightweight bout. Former WBC junior lightweight champion Terri Harper (11-1-1, 6KOs) will take on former WBO featherweight champion Heather “The Heat” Hardy (22-2, 4KOs).

This is a very important fight for both women as they look to return to the win column. For Harper, she’s coming off of her first career loss, where she was brutally stopped cold on her feet by Alycia Baumgardner in their November 2021 fight.

As for Hardy, she’s riding a two-fight losing streak suffering back-to-back unanimous decision losses to multi-weight world champion and boxing great Amanda Serrano and Jessica Camara.

QUESTIONS FOR BOTH FIGHTERS!

Heading into this matchup, a lot of questions will be asked in regards to both women for various of reasons. For Harper, fans will want to know how she will fare at her new weight class. Furthermore, has she regained her confidence after such a brutal knockout? She revealed that it was a struggle to make the 130-pound limit, which may have played a role in why she looked sluggish and out of sorts against Baumgardner.

For Hardy, who is now 39 years old, it’s pretty simple: can she still compete at a high level, given her advanced age and having fought sporadically for the last two years?

HARDY NOT UNDERESTIMATING HARPER!

While some people may be ready to count out Harper, don’t include Hardy in that group of people. As an experienced veteran in this sport, she knows better than to ever overlook an opponent. She told SecondsOut the following regarding her and Harper’s lack of amateur experience.

“I didn’t haven’t a long amateur background either. I only had about 25 or 30 fights, I stayed in the amateurs for about 18 months before I turned pro. So, I know that doesn’t always mean anything. And, because I have so much experience and that I’m a veteran, I know better than to look at someone on TV and say what I think, because what you see and what you get are two different things in boxing.”

While Hardy won’t be overlooking Harper, she knows what happened in her last fight. To be blunt, Harper looked bad in her last fight. Whether that was due to her struggle to make the 130-pound weight limit or how good Baumgardner was, the fact is she has to prove that she’s put that all behind her. For Hardy, she will be relentless and test Harper not only physically but mentally as well, which she let be known in the interview.

“You’ll see me be relentless to get towards that W.”
