Tony Harrison takes home the WBC title by controversial decision.
Jermell Charlo looking to make the fourth defense of his WBC junior middleweight title against the talented, but underachieving Tony Harrison.
Charlo came out the gates aggressive obviously gunning for a knockout victory. Harrison who’s stamina has failed him the past, played it safe by allowing the younger Charlo to leave himself open to be countered.
Harrison was excellent with his jab as he was able set up hard right hands that bothered the champion at moments throughout the fight.
Charlo’s offense wasn’t to be overlooked as well. He landed thudding shots to the body and head of Harrison that caused the challenger to be somewhat overly cautious at times.
When it was all said and done we had a enormous upset!
Tony Harrison was announced as the winner via unanimous decision.
One judge had it wide at 116-112 while the other two saw it closer at 115-113 each.
This loss for Jermell Charlo is his first career defeat as a professional. Consequently, it comes at a very bad time as a win here would have surely set up a unification bout with Jarrett Hurd in 2019.
Many fans and pundits will be upset with this decision based on the possibility of that mega-fight seemingly off the table.
