Tony Harrison Still Convinced Charlo Cheated
Roughly two months after his bad-blood rematch with Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (33-1, 17 KO’s), Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (28-3, 21 KO’S) dropped a bombshell allegation. After going back home to watch the fight over, Harrison noticed that at one point Charlo ceased drinking from a clear water bottle and began drinking from a green colored Gatorade bottle. Drinking from a container that is not clear and transparent is a violation of the rules.
CSAC BACKS CHARLO
Once this discrepancy was identified, Super Bad quickly took to his social media to put the whole situation on blast. Unsurprisingly, once he saw the post, Iron Man also struck back at Harrison in the comments section of the original post. Outside of verbally degrading Harrison, his girl and his mother, Charlo insisted that he was clean before, during and after the bout.
Now the Californian State Athletic Commission has come forward to cosign the good standing of Jermell Charlo.
“Mr. Charlo’s cut man asked the commission-assigned athletic inspector if he could transfer water from new water bottles to the squeezable Gatorade water bottle for the purpose of being able to squeeze water from the bottle. The athletic inspector allowed this and observed the cut man take two new water bottles, open and pour them into the squeezable Gatorade water bottle.
Furthermore, Mr. Charlo and Mr. Harrison passed every drug test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA), out of competition and in competition. Mr. Charlo and Mr. Harrison were both clean fighters for this bout.” ~Californian State Athletic Commission
STILL UNCONVINCED
Despite the statement and clean test results from both men, Harrison remains staunchly convinced that he was dealt a dirty hand on December 21, 2019 as he shared with Fight Hub TV.
“They say that they authorized the cut man to do that but the cut man had nothing to do with it. It was the uncle that was giving him the bottled water. Whatever that was that was in that bottle, the uncle was giving it to him.
Nothing makes sense, nothing adds up, nothing makes sense! Not only to me but to the people who really understand boxing. Nothing makes sense in their story and the sequence, nothing makes sense. I never said that he took anything that would test him dirty. So he brings up VADA, you know what I mean. VADA is not going to show up if you’ve taken something that’s energetic or some B12 or something that gives you that extra spunk. It has nothing to do with testing dirty, just you were drinking something that I wasn’t drinking, period.
[when asked if he thinks Charlo had a energy burst] I do, I honestly do! When I went back and looked at his demeanor from round three and round four, he looked like he was dead. My whole demeanor in my corner I was going, ‘I’m going to stop this bitch,’ then all the sudden he just starts coming back with more spunk and more spunk. The later the fight went on, he comes back with more spunk.” ~Tony Harrison, former WBC world super welterweight champion
BOXING MARTYR??
While he feels that nothing of substance will happen in his own personal case, Harrison doesn’t feel that he’s wasted his time shining a light on the issue. In his mind, Super Bad believes that by making this much noise, he will prevent this type of thing happening to another fighter in the future. And for now, that is good enough for him.
“I’m not the one to be quiet on that, but nothing’s going to come from it, but I’m going to tell you what’s going to happen from that. I [will] take the backlash up front but I just made the sport of boxing that much cleaner, that much better! Because guess what, California Commission know they fucked up. You can blame it on me, you fucked up but it’ll never happen again to nobody else.” ~Tony Harrison, former WBC world super welterweight champion
