Dave Allen-Alexander Povetkin next if Allen defeats David Price

3kingsboxing.com has learned that heavyweight fringe contender Dave Allen will face former heavyweight titlst Alexander Povetkin if he defeats David Price. The fight would take place on the under-card of Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell, which takes place on August 31.

According to Eddie Hearn, the fight is all but done. That is, pending Allen defeating David Price, of course. The Allen-Price fight takes place on the under-card of the Dillian Whyte-Oscar Rivas WBC interim heavyweight title fight.

Allen, age 27, is the favorite heading into this match-up with the former 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, David Price. Price, by comparison, hasn’t quite lived up to the lofty expectations for him coming out of the amateurs. He has fought the likes of Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte, Lucas Browne and Tony Yoka. He went 1-3 in those fights, with Tony Yoka and Luis Ortiz walking away with stoppage victories.

For Povetkin, he’s clearly on the downside of his career after suffering a stoppage in 6 rounds by former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, in September of 2018. He hasn’t fought since that defeat.

An Allen-Povetkin would go a long way in telling where both men stand in the heavyweight division. For Allen, who went through the ringer earlier in his career, has bounced back nicely and is currently riding a four-fight win streak. A win over Povetkin would push him closer to a title opportunity. For Povetkin, a win would keep him in the middle of the pack for a bigger fight, possibly against guys like Joseph Parker or Oleksandr Usyk.
