Eddie Hearn and Brian Cohen Trade Words Over Rematch Clause
Usually, being a world champion in boxing comes with some nice perks. Unless, of course, your name is Christina Linardatou. The WBO junior welterweight will be in tough as she takes on undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor on November 2.
Some interesting news came to light at their September 17 formal press conference to announce their fight.
Manager of Linardatou, Brian Cohen would reveal that his fighter, who happens to be the champion, wasn’t afforded the opportunity to secure a rematch clause. However, this was not for a lack of trying.
Ironically, and quite hypocritical, is that Eddie Hearn was able to secure one for the challenger Katie Taylor. Understandably, Taylor is the big draw and an unbeaten undisputed champion. However, in this case, she’s moving up in weight and challenging for Linardatou’s title, not the other way around.
A back and forth between the two men would ensue.
Hearn: “Are you worried about your fighter is going to lose?”
Cohen: “Don’t get cute with me! I’m not the one!”
As typical with Hearn, he tiptoed around Cohen’s question about Hearn getting a rematch clause for Taylor, but not allowing one for Linardatou.
Maybe the two men can revise the contract and get a rematch clause in place for the champion.
