Eddie Hearn Interested in Making Conor Benn vs Danny Garcia
Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that talks are in the works for a potential showdown with Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (23-0, 14) versus Danny “Swift” Garcia (37-3, 21KO). The British promoter believes it’s a big fight in the United States or the United Kingdom.
It all started with an interview on YSM Sports Media when Swift expressed interest in a fight against The Destroyer at junior middleweight.
“I would love to fight him at 154 pounds. I think it makes great sense, you know he wants to fight a big name. . .I feel like stylistically that’s a great fight for me.”
A NEW CHALLENGER EMERGES
Well, it seems that it wasn’t just all talk, as Hearn told Pro Boxing Fans that Swift’s name is in the mix after contacting him.
“Danny Garcia reached out to our team to talk to me direct, and I’ll be talking to him this week. I love the fight with Danny Garcia, USA or the UK.”
This comes as surprising news as it seems the talks to make a fight with multi-divisional champion Gervonta Davis have stalled. Where one door closes, another opens, as Garcia would be a creditable replacement if the Davis fight falls through.
Hearn has to be riding a high wave of relief following The Destroyer’s performance against Peter Dobson. He is on record saying it was time to show and prove for Benn, who has remained under heavy scrutiny from a failed test for a banned substance in 2022.
Making this fight should be a top priority for Hearn, as Garcia could be ripe for the pickings. In addition, the Philadelphian name still carries enough cache that a victory by The Destroyer would do wonders for his career moving forward.
