Eddie Hearn reveals text message from Ammo Williams
DAZN/Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has done livestreams like a kid playing with a new toy. In doing so, he has kept fans and pundits engaged. Undoubtedly, this has been extremely effective. Now, with boxing returning, everyone is in a frenzy looking to start scheduling fights again.
The verbal British promoter was live once again and was asked about Austin “Ammo” Williams (5-0, 4ko). If you don’t know, the young prospect was back in the gym training after being quarantined. Moreover, he posted a video of him giving a sparring partner the business.
Furthermore, this went viral in a negative way, as there is a rule among fighters regading sparring: like Vegas “whatever happens there, stays there.” However, many felt that the young man went overboard in sparring and was extremely aggressive. Some even considered his actions as being a bully.
This brings in WBO Super-middleweight champion “Superb” Billy Joe Saunders (29-0, 14ko) and WBA International junior middleweight titlist Anthony “The Machine” Fowler (12-1, 9ko). The two British fighters publicly condemned the actions of the young Texas fighter, who signed with Matchroom Boxing USA in 2019.
Now hold on, there is more.
SETTLE IT IN THE RING
Hearn is always keen on when something is hot and knows how to capitalize on it. He went into detail about a possible fight between Fowler and Williams sometime in the future.
“I think Ammo Williams he’s a kid, right? Mophead, he shouldn’t have done it. He put a video up of him bashing somebody in sparring. We know it always happens, you shouldn’t really post videos of sparring. In my opinion, listen, he’s learning.”
“But now, Billy Joe had a go at him, Fowler had a go at him, and he texted me last night. Ammo, saying he wants to fight Fowler. I don’t think that’s right yet, but Fowler against Ammo is a cracking little fight for 2021.”
In the words of Rap legend KRS-ONE: we’re not done.
Hearn would also reveal what exactly Ammo said in the text message.
“’Eddie, I will fight anyone, just like in the amateurs. I went open after 2 fights, I’ve become number one in the US in one year and six months. I’ve taken some bruises and bumps on the way, but this is what I signed up for right now.”
“I believe I would give Billy Joe Saunders a great fight and I am sure the world champs I have worked with will vouch for that’. He goes on: ‘I will absolutely destroy Anthony Fowler at this very moment at 5-0.’
‘I will beat Fowler tomorrow, the people want to see it. I’ll take the risk, it’s actually easy to fight guys who are technically sound rather unpredictable fighters with no foundation.’”
If there is one thing you can say for the young Texas prospect, he has the fighter’s mentality and isn’t afraid to back it up.
