Eddie Hearn: Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin announcement imminent!

For the last several weeks, there has been a good measure of uncertainty regarding a number of heavyweight match-ups. For unified heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (23-1, 21 KO’s), there was the tossup between his two mandatory challengers Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (28-1, 14 KO’s) and Oleksadr Usyk (17-0, 13 KO’s).

Yet, at the moment, it’s all but written in stone that AJ will face Pulev in his next outing.

WHO’S BODY IS WHYTE TRYING TO SNATCH NEXT?

By the same token, there was consistent industry rumblings regarding who Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (27-1, 18 KO’s) would dance with next. Now, according to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, as reported to Boxing Social, the ‘who’ portion of the Body Snatcher’s next foe can be put to bed. And similar to the situation with Joshua and Pulev, the only notable items left to determine for Whyte v Povetkin is the when and where.

“The good news for UK fights fans is Dereck Chisora against Usyk, Dillian Whyte against Povetkin, Anthony Joshua against Pulev. All will be UK fights, but we need to spread them out one month apart.

“So that’s what we are trying to do at the moment and we’re on track. Again, terms are agreed to with Povetkin basically. So, we just got to get the date and venue locked in and we’re good to go.

“Dillian Whtye is taking longer for him to get back in the ring because he has been doing so much work on the physical side. He wasn’t happy with his performance in Saudi. Obviously, he took the fight on short notice [and] he was heavy.

“I wanted him to take a fight in March. Now it looks like it could be May, so it’s been a bit frustrating in that respect. But basically the Povetkin fight is ready to go.”

Now with the opposition of his next prizefight taken care of, the date and venue should be coming in very short order. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing to find out all the latest breaking news in relation swiftly approaching heavyweight showdowns.
