Jamel Herring returns in July
WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (21-2, 10KOs) will return to the squared circle in July against an opponent TBD in Las Vegas.
Herring, who’s promoted by Top Rank, is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over mandatory challenger Lamont Roach (19-1-1, 7KOs) back in November of 2019. That was his first title defense of the WBO title, which he won in May when he defeated Masayuki Ito (26-2-1, 14KOs) by a unanimous decision.
He was in talks to face former multi-weight champion Carl “The Jackal” Frampton (27-2, 15KOs). All of that went down the drain once the COVID-19 pandemic started to sweep throughout the United States, causing a chain reaction of sports and business shutdowns.
However, with things slowly starting to improve and sports inching closer to a return, Bob Arum and Top Rank are moving forward with scheduled fights. It should be noted that all of the fights in the meantime will be contested without fans in attendance to help combat the spread of the virus.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates once an opponent is confirmed.
