Maurice Hooker on Regis Prograis: I Will Break Him Apart!
Come April 17, we’ll see the clash of two former unbeaten junior welterweight champions who both suffered their first career defeats in unification bouts against fellow unbeaten champions. The hard-hitting Texas native Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (27-1-3 18KOs) has put fellow hard-hitting Regis Prograis (24-1, 21KOs) on notice!
Hooker lost his WBO title in July of 2019 against WBC champion Jose Ramirez (25-0, 17KOs) in a seventh round TKO stoppage. Prograis, on the other hand, dropped a close split decision to Josh Taylor (16-0, 12KOs) to lose his WBA title.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Hooker had the following to say:
“It’s good that both sides got the confidence because it makes it a good fight. My coach believes I’m gon’ knock him out, his team believes he’s going to knock me out. We gon’ see, you know. I’m not backing down from him come fight night, I’m gon’ meet him in the middle of the ring and we’ll go from there.”
On whether or not it’s smart to fight power with power against Prograis:
“I have power too, I have power too and come fight night, you’ll see him backing up before I do.”
It’s safe to say that both of these men will be bringing the action on April 17. With both men bringing in fan-friendly styles, this bout could be a candidate for fight of the year.
More importantly than wowing the viewing public with an electric night of action, both men will need to enter this night of battle with one thing one thing in mind: winning!
Another loss for either will no doubt be a damaging blow not only mentally, but for the overall standing in their respective careers individually.
