Maurice Hooker to make second title defense March 9
WBO junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker will make his 2019 ring debut on March 9. This will mark the second defense of his title he won in a victory over Terry Flanagan in June 2018.
He’ll likely serve in the co-main event for Dimitry Bivol vs Joe Smith Jr on DAZN.
In his last ring appearance, Hooker traveled to enemy territory when he fought WBO number one contender Alex Saucedo. In front of the pro Saucedo crowd, Hooker scored multiple knockdowns en route to a seventh round stoppage. His performance superseded the “average” showing he produced against Flanagan and propelled him into being one of the “must see” fighters at junior welterweight.
As of now his opponent is unknown. Although, Jack Catterall (23-0, 12KOs), who is coming off an impressive victory over Ohara Davies in October, is the #1 contender.
3kingsboxing.com has recently reported Catterall’s interest in getting bigger fights for 2019. Would a title bout suffice?
