Marie Pier Houle Gets Controversial Scorecard on Clavel v Plata Undercard

Junior welterweight Mazlum Akdeniz (18-0, 8KO) easily scored a victory against an overmatched Cristian Bielma (19-5-2KO). Akdeniz did a good job of mixing up the attack and was landing perfectly timed counters throughout the fight. His power came into play with three knockdowns en route to a shutout. The judges scored it 100-87. 3Kings Boxing agrees with the judges.

Akdeniz needs to stop feasting on lower-level opposition and fight a quality opponent in order to crack into the ranking system. With his undefeated record intact, it will be interesting to see what Team Akdeniz’s next move will be.

MARIE PIER HOULE GETS CONTROVERSIAL SCORECARDS IN A CLOSE FIGHT

In the women’s welterweight division Marie Pier Houle (8-0-1, 2KO) gets a victory by wide scorecards against Marisol Moreno (6-4) in a close fight. Ranked #10 WBC and #6 WBA, Houle struggled in the early portion of the fight as Moreno used the reach to her advantage behind the jab. Houle brought the crowd to life in the later rounds with the occasional power shots. Down the stretch, both women had success in a fast past fight that had the crowd on its feet as the final bell sounded.

The judge’s scorecards were 80-72, 79-73, and 77-75 in favor of Houle. The first two cards were terrible but the last is more reasonable. 3Kings Boxing had it 77-75 for Moreno in a fight that could have gone either way.

ERIC BASRAN CRUISES TO AN EASY VICTORY OVER JUAN RAMIREZ

Eric Basran (3-0,1KO) was a Canadian amateur standout who won the 2019 championship and Olympic Qualification tournament. He outgunned Juan Carlos Ramirez (4-3) from the start of the bell in this six-round lightweight contest. The speed, footwork, and punch output were on full display. He used the jab to perfection and couldn’t miss with the right hand in what turned into a glorified sparring session. One judge had it 60-53 despite there being no knockdown, as the other two had it 60-54. 3Kings Boxing agrees with the latter two judges. Basran has the talent and it will be interesting to see how this decorated amateur progresses as the competition gets tougher.
