Filip Hrgovic vs Gary Cornish for vacant WBC International title!
3kingsboxing has learned that Filip Hrogovic (5-0, 4 KOs) will face veteran fighter Gary Cornish (25-2, 13 KOs) for the vacant WBC International Heavyweight title.
Hrogovic, a 26 year old Croatian boxer, has been on a rise of late. He won a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics. Since turning pro, he has fought nothing but stiff competition. All five of his opponents had winning records, so this fight comes as no surprise.
Teaming up with Cuban trainer Pedro Diaz, he is poised to take the biggest step of his career.
Cornish, a 31 year old British boxer, is a very experienced fighter who has fought for the vacant title. In 2015, he suffered his first defeat to then WBC International Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
He once held the IBO Inter-Continental title also and is currently coming off an impressive knock out victory. A win here would get his career back on track and possibly back into the rankings as well.
Although nothing has been officially announced, the fight could take place in Arena Zagreb, Zagreb. In that scenario, Hrgovic would claim the home advantage. September 8th is the target date.
