Hrgovic and Dubois on a collision course?

Boxing is at its best when the heavyweight division is leading the pack. While there have been many down years recently, there has been an uptick in the big boy division. With Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury all taking on each other or other top competition, it has been a buzz regarding the division.

THE YOUTH IS THE FUTURE!

As great as those champions and former champions are, time waits for no one. No I am not saying retirement is imminent for the aforementioned fighters. However, what I am saying is that there are some up and coming heavyweights who will no doubt threaten the top of the food chain!

Two fighters for example are rising prospects Filip Hrgovic (11-0, 9KOs) and Daniel Dubois (15-0, 14KOs). Both of these men have bright futures, possessing the skills, height and knockout power to become champions. They also have an eagerness to prove themselves on an elite level not only against the top guys in the division now, but each other. The two men have sparred in the past, so they have some familiarity with each other. However, we all know sparring and an actual fight are often two different things.

2021 SHOWDOWN?

The promoters of Hrgovic, Eddie Hearn and Kalle and Nisse Sauerland, have proclaimed that the Croatian fighter is very keen on locking horns with fellow unbeaten prospect Dubois.

They told Sky Sports the following:

“Great fight. We’ve all heard the sparring stories, let’s find out if they’re true or not. Two great young heavyweights, who are both top 10 in the world now.”

~ Eddie Hearn

“I don’t really like to discuss sparring. But the way we see it? Filip is the best heavyweight in the world.

We would fight Dubois, no problem, if the terms were right. He still has to beat Joe Joyce, which is a very tough fight. Dubois should not look past it. But we would take the winner of Joyce vs Dubois any day of the week. I know Filip would be very keen on that fight.

The conditions have to be right for a title of some sort. It needs to mean something, but we’re game. Let’s see if they are up for it.

We want to progress as quickly as possible at the same time. We won’t wait for a Dubois or a Joyce, we believe Filip is far past them talent-wise. They aren’t bad fighters but they need to prove themselves against each other.

We are waiting but we won’t wait too long for that kind of a fight. We have our sights set on some very big fights.”

~ Nisse Sauerland

FRANK WARREN DISPUTES SPARRING CLAIMS!

“We’re happy to have Daniel booked in the biggest domestic heavyweight fight in years versus Joyce, who beat Hrgovic in the WSB. Rather than worry about Dubois, maybe they should worry about their man and get him a proper fight.”

Frank Warren

It is clear that these two are being lined up for a possible showdown in the near future. It would produce huge excitement as the new class of heavyweights push forward to reclaim the glory days in which heavyweight boxing ruled the sport.
