Filip Hrgovic Strikes Back At Frank Warren Following Zhang Upset Over Joyce
IBF heavyweight mandatory challenger Filip “El Animal” Hrgovic (15-0, 12KO) sent a harsh message to Queensberry Promotions CEO Frank Warren following the defeat of his fighter, Joe Joyce, against Zhilei Zhang on April 15.
Zhang (25-1-1, 15KO) continues to be the topic of discussion after capturing the WBO Interim title by stopping Joyce (15-0, 14KO) in the sixth round. This was a major upset of epic proportions that has tilted the scales in the division.
Hrgovic feels a sense of vindication, considering the heat he received after scoring a controversial unanimous decision over Zhang in August 2022. The general consensus among fans and boxing pundits is that he got a gift decision that night. One person in particular whose criticism stayed buried in the mind of El Animal the most was Warren.
HRGOVIC CALLS OUT WARREN FOR PRODUCING A HYPE JOB
During an interview with Boxing Social, he went on a verbal assault with extreme prejudice against Warren.
“I did an interview for iFL [TV], and they removed my interview a few hours ago because I said to this piece of shit Frank Warren, who said a lot of bad things after my win against Zhang, he talked a lot of shit . . . ‘why even consider Hrgovic a boogeyman? Why do you even consider him a prospect?'”
“I ask him does he understand now. The guy who I beat came in London and demolished his guy. I hope so now he understands everything . . . Frank Warren, you’re producing hype jobs, and shut your fucking mouth up.”
Understandably, Hrgovic is using this moment to exact some revenge on the British promoter. However, Joyce being a hype job is a bit of a stretch, for he has defeated former world champions, title challengers, and current WBA Regular champion Daniel Dubois.
