Hughie Fury easily stops Pavel Sour!
Cousin to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, Hughie Fury (23-3, 13KO)) has not quite had the kind of career of his sibling at the age of 25.
Four months shy of his 25th birthday, Tyson had knocked out former two-time IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham and was two years away from stopping the long reign of Wladimir Klitchsko.
However, Hughie at this point would be light-years away from beating any of the respectable contenders/former champions of the division and even further away from becoming a unified heavyweight champion!
Six months removed from dropping an opportunity to defeat a former champion in Alexander Povetkin, the younger Fury returned to the ring to take on a much lighter touch in Pavel Sour (11-2, 6KO).
NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED
There was never a question about Fury’s ability to beat the lower-level competition of the world. The question persists is whether he is going to become world level or stay a domestic level fighter. This bout provided zero insight into an answer to that question.
Two rounds in, Fury easily dominated his over-matched opponent until Sour’s corner decided to throw in the towel. Though dominant, his performance was not one in which he should be praised about.
Sour was literally coming off a loss where he was nowhere to be found in a fight with prospect Jermaine Franklin just five months prior.
HARD TO PLACE HIM
Fury is going to be one of those fighters where it will be tough to match him against someone who will boost his career and hope he wins. IBF #1 contender Kubrat Pulev, former WBO champion Joseph Parker and Povetkin are all times at which he took a step up to boost his name and failed.
He is good enough to beat the journeymen of the heavyweight division but not good enough to beat the respectable contenders.
All that can be said is, “throw him in there” and hope for the best!
