Michael Hunter puts the WBC heavyweight champion on notice!

Top heavyweight contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter (18-1-1, 12KOs) has a message for the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 23KOs).

While answering questions from his fans on Instagram, he was asked who was his ideal opponent.

“My ideal opponent would be like a Dillian Whyte. So you know, I think that would be ideal for me. Maybe Tyson Fury, but I think Dillian is more reachable.

“I’d fuck Tyson Fury up, he knows it. We were supposed to fight twice. Why we didn’t fight twice? It is what it is.”

That is a big proclamation from Hunter, who’s just coming off of an entertaining split draw against former WBA regular heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin. While Povetkin is to be respected for his skills and experience, that fight showed flaws in the game of Hunter, who’s on the smaller side for a heavyweight against an opponent past his prime.

While gifted athletically to go along with a solid skill set, the question remains can he legitimately hang with the “big” boys in the heavyweight division. His performance against Povetkin may have given us our answer.

This node of confidence could directly come from “rumors” that Hunter bested Fury in sparring.

Regardless, Hunter is a legitimate threat to many guys in the heavyweight division based off skills alone. Remember, this is the same guy that gave former undisputed crusierweight champion Oleksandr Usyk major trouble with nearly a year of inactivity preceding their 2017 meeting!

It would be really interesting to see how he’d fare against the gigantic WBC champion, if given the opportunity.
