Michael Hunter Vying for Title Contention!

Former WBO cruiserweight title challenger Michael Hunter was once considered to be a replacement fighter for Jarrell Miller to challenge unified champion Anthony Joshua.

Many pundits believed the Miller disqualification would spell reward for the Las Vegas based boxer. It was a huge scramble by promoter Eddie Hearn to find the right piece that was missing from the puzzle.

In the end, Andy Ruiz Jr would win out on the jackpot opportunity. Hunter has now aimed all focus on earning the title shot. In a recent interview, the man nicknamed “The Bounty” gave his thoughts on the plans to accomplish this.

“Eventually once I keep winning and getting better, eventually I’m just going to rise to the top on my own.

“If I do get it, it will be because I earned it, and I took it from them.”

It’s good to see to Hunter is still up to the challenge. Although, moving up into the ranking system is going to be a hard climb with challengers like Oscar Rivas, Adam Kownacki, and Luis Ortiz. Further, Trevor Bryan, Dillian Whyte and Kubrat Pulev are already in title contention.

It’s worth mentioning the Hunter won the WBA International title in 2018. The victory over solid journeyman Alexander Ustinov provided a major boost up the ranking system.

The journey towards the championship starts with a must-win victory over Fabio Maldonado, which takes place May 25th live on Sky Sports.
