IBF Steps In Between Charlo vs Castaño Rematch With Bakhram Murtazaliev!


When last in the ring, WBA, IBF and WBC junior middleweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KO’s) was shooting to become the first undisputed champion in the division since Winky Wright in 2004. He attempting this by taking on WBO champion Brian “El Boxi” Castaño (17-0-2, 12 KO’s). Despite the fighters lofty goals, the meaningful dust-up ended in an draw. Naturally the whole of the boxing world began clamoring for a do-over so that finality could be achieved.

Now that anxiously anticipated rematch may not come around as fast as first thought. This is because the IBF has ordered that Charlo face his mandatory challenger Bakhram Murtazaliev (19-0, 14 KO’s). The two teams now have 30 days to come to an agreement or else the fight will go to open purse bid. Like Charlo, Murtazaliev was just in the ring on July 17 picking up a unanimous decision win over Khiary Gray.
