Jaime Munguia Targets Plant and Berlanga
Top super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KO) and one-time IBF champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (23-2, 14 KO) is a fight that should happen next.
On May 3, Munguia avenged a shocking knockout defeat at the hands of Bruno Surace in 2024. Munguia did a better job of attacking with combinations and applied a solid body attack. After going the distance while showing solid improvement from their first fight, Munguia cruised to 117-111, 117-111, and 116-112 scorecards.
During the post-fight interview, the Mexican mentioned wanting to face Edgar Berlanga and Sweethands.
“We are ready for anyone at 168 pounds Berlanga or Plant – any of those guys, we’re ready for them.”
Plant is the fight that should be next, considering Berlanga will be fighting Hamzah Sheeraz. In addition, a victory over the current WBA interim champion puts Munguia back within striking distance of a potential title fight.
