Jermall Charlo Removed From IBF Rankings

IBF removes Charlo as possible Derevyanchenko opponent

The IBF has removed Jermall Charlo from their rankings, perhaps because he won the the WBC “interim” Middleweight Title. What does this move mean?

The sanctioning body has been very busy as of late stripping Gennady Golovkin of their middleweight title last week, then yesterday they mandated that Daniel Jacobs meet Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant title.

However, Jacobs has options as he currently is the next in line for a title shot with the WBA. To make matters more complicated Jacobs and Derevyanchenko share managers, trainers and the same gym. He is also in the mix to land a fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez should the Golovkin/Alvarez negotiations fall apart, yet again.

Should Jacobs pass up the opportunity at a title shot then Charlo would of been the next in line, removing him from the rankings eliminates that possibility. So, who would be next should Jacobs go another route, Demetrius Andrade would be the next in line now.

If by some reason Andrade turns the title shot down then Tommy Langford would be next in line, even though he lost to Jason Welborn last month. It’s looks like Charlo will wait on the WBC for his title shot, as an avenue just closed on him.

Should Jacobs decide to take the opportunity for the IBF title, they will have 30 days to negotiate with Dervyanchenko before the bout its ordered to go to purse bid. 3KingsBoxing will comeback with an update as soon as more information becomes available.
