Jarrett Hurd Gets Into a Heated Exchange with the Charlo Brothers
In the aftermath of any great fight weekend, social media will start to blow up with videos from altercations that take place where media cameras can not go. The boxing community is buzzing over a public dispute between former unified junior middleweight champion Jarrett “Swift” Hurd and the Charlo Brothers (unified champion Jermell “Iron-Man” Charlo, WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo).
Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez brings out all the stars in boxing and Hollywood. So there should be no surprise that the crowing of the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion would bring out even more noticeable names.
Undoubtedly the Charlo brothers and Swift were in attendance to support their fellow Premier Boxing Champion alumni, former IBF champion Caleb Plant. Afterward, Jermall Charlo was standing between Swift and his brother as they exchanged words.
It is unclear as to what was said that started it all, but fans caught a good earful of what the unified champion was saying.
“I’ll kill you and your bitch!”
Hurd instantly pushed the middleweight champion aside in an attempt to get at his brother, Jermell. This sparked a domino effect that saw the former unified champion and Hit Man barking back and forth at each other.
A MISSED OPPORTUNITY
Once undefeated champions, the two men were on course to fight each back in 2018. Iron Man was the WBC champion at that time and Hurd became a unified champion after capturing the WBA “super” title away from Erislandy Lara on May 7, 2018.
PBC was kicking things into high gear, promoting both champions’ upcoming showcase bouts in December of 2018, before looking to make a huge unification fight in 2019. Yet, as the phrase goes, “the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”
Iron Man would take a tough loss to Tony Harrison, who coincidentally was defeated by Hurd back in 2017 for the vacant IBF title. Jermell Charlo would get back his title one year later. Swift, on the other hand, was stopped by former title contender Julian “J-Rock” Williams on May 11, 2019.
TWO FIGHTERS TWO DIFFERENT PATHS
Charlo improved his record to 34-1-1 after a bizarre stoppage over then unified champion Jeison Rosario. Also, he had a draw in an attempt to become undisputed against WBO champion Brian Carlos Castano back in July. The boxing community is waiting to see if they will rematch or Iron Man opts to make a mandatory defense.
Hurd’s record (24-2, 16KO) has taken a serious hit after losing to J-Rock. He suffered another upset defeat to Luis “Cuba” Arias in June. Some boxing enthusiasts believe that the former unified champion was more focused on wanting to fight Charlo, overlooking the opponent in front of him.
“I still want to fight him (Charlo)….He got to see me!”
Whether they fight or not, time will tell. However, no one can blame Hurd at all for wanting to get a piece of the unified champion. Fighters are okay with the trash talk being about them, but when you start talking about loved ones, that is how things get taken to the streets.
