Jesse Rodriguez Easily Retains The Title Against Pedro Guevara
In the first defense of his title, WBC super flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KO’s) flattened Pedro “Jibran Pedrin” Guevara (24-5-1, 22 KO’s) by third round technical knockout. Right from the start Rodriguez applied a great deal of smart, non-stop pressure along with a persistent body attack.
For the opening round, Guevara pretty much hightailed it all around the ring. While it was to his peril, Guevara became more stationary during the second and third periods. Here Bam continued to focus on blasting Guevara’s torso and connecting with teeth clicking uppercuts. To his credit, Jibran Pedrin did score his fair share of body blows in the second.
In the third round however, the bottom fell out for Guevara when Rodriguez first dropped Guevara with a straight left. Moments after getting back to his feet a sneaky right uppercut cranked Guevara’s neck and put him back on the canvas for a second time. After briefly watching him writhe on the floor, referee Ricky Gonzalez called a halt to the action awarding Rodriguez the victory.
