David Jimenez Outworks Scrappy Ramirez
With a possible title shot on the line next, David “Medallita” Jimenez (16-1, 11KO) outworked John “Scrappy” Ramirez (13-1, 9KO) for the win.
The fight looked ugly in the early portion as Scrappy elected to forgo boxing and allowed the fight to be in the phonebooth. Yet, he turned it around by working off the jab and stepping back to land sharp counter shots. Despite not landing anything clean, Medallita used his head to pin Ramirez against the ropes and unloaded uppercuts and shots to the body.
As the fight continued, the Costa Rican quickly closed the gap only to get hit by combinations from Ramirez. Yet, Jimenez would sidestep his opponent to land hard body shots and uppercuts. The fight became a tale of Ramirez controlling the first half of the rounds with accurate shots. But Jimenez would take back control, closing out the rounds strong. It’s easy to have Jimenez ahead as he won the ring with generalship, effective aggression, and defense portion of the fight.
Down the stretch, the Costa Rican was outworking and overwhelming the Californian with sheer volume. With his corner telling him it’s a close fight, Jimenez fought like a man possessed. He repeatedly hit Scrappy with those powerful uppercuts and body shots. In the end, two judges scored it 117-111, as one had it 116-112, all for Jimenez.
The judges got it right, as the correct man was awarded the victory.
