John Ramirez Looks Impressive In Victory Over Ephraim Bui

In a super flyweight battle featuring former sparring partners, John “Scrappy” Ramirez (14-1, 9KO) picked up the victory over Ephraim “The Effect” Bui (10-1, 8KO) by unanimous decision.

Scrappy tried to box in the first round but quickly abandoned that and started fighting on the inside. He landed solid right-hand counters that put The Effect on the backfoot.

However, Bui came marching back, after suffering a cut from a headbutt, with repeated left-hand shots. His ability to use angles before firing hard hooks halted Ramirez’s offense momentarily.

In the middle rounds, Ramirez adjusted and landed several hard right hands that turned the fight in his favor. He couldn’t miss with the right hand, taking advantage of Bui’s lack of head movement.

Bui showed a good chin after taking repeated right-hand shots like candy. What started as a competitive fight turned into a one-man show as Ramirez showed vast improvement.

When the final bell sounded, all three judges scored it 97-93 in favor of Ramirez. It was the performance he needed to bounce back from suffering the first defeat of his career against David Jimenez on April 20.
