JoJo Diaz Accepts a Challenge from Jorge Linares!

Former IBF junior lightweight champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz (33-4-1, 15KO) is coming off a solid win and is looking to fight multi-divisional champion “El Nino De Oro” Jorge Linares (47-8, 29KO) next.

On July 8, JoJo picked up an impressive victory over Jerry Perez on the undercard of Floyd Schofield versus Haskell Rhodes. Snapping a three-fight losing streak, Diaz managed to pull his career off life support for the moment.

Linares is on a three-fight losing streak after losing to unknown Zhora Hamazaryan in December 2022. Looking to get back into the winning column, he took to social media congratulating Diaz before asking for a fight.

Diaz was not about to back down and accepted the challenge, and both fighters continued the discussion on social media.

DIAZ VERSUS LINARES WOULD BE A MUST-WIN FIGHT

Linares and Diaz fight under the Golden Boy banner, so this shouldn’t be a hard fight to make. If made, it would create must-win situation for both former champions. If JoJo loses, it would undo all the hard work that went into his recent comeback victory.

At 37 years old, Linares is far from the fighter that has won world titles in three different weight divisions. The Venezuelan is heavily battle-worn and has been the topic of retirement discussions among some boxing fans. A loss to Diaz would definitely be the nail in the coffin on his career. It would mark four-straight losses and officially move him below journeyman. Not to mention boxing fans will be screaming for him to retire even louder.

It will be interesting to see what happens as both fighters want the fight, and hopefully Golden Boy will deliver it to the fans.
