Jessica McCaskill vs Anahi Sanchez unification bout set for May 25.

When it comes to women’s boxing in 2019, unification seems to be the current wave. On April 14, middleweight world champions Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer put all their belts on the line for the undisputed middleweight championship.

Now, lightweight title holders Katie Taylor and Delphine Persoon will follow suit with their respective titles. They will face off on June 1 for the unified/undisputed lightweight title of the world.

The trend of women’s boxing world champions fighting unification bouts will happen yet again.

3KingsBoxing has learned WBC Super-Lightweight champion Jessica McCaskill will face off against WBA champion Anahi Esther Sanchez on May 25 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, MD on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Carlos Takam live on DAZN!

The 34 year-old McCaskill turned in her career best performance during her last outing versus Erica Anabella Farias. She won the WBC belt in her hometown of Chicago by defeating Farias by unanimous decision on October 20, 2018.

A four division women’s world champion, the 27 year-old Sanchez won the WBA belt in her home country of Argentina. She won with a first round KO over Diana Ayala on April 20, 2018.

Both ladies expressed excitement and look forward to the opportunity.

“My team and I are ready to make history and change the game in women’s boxing. I know that this is going to be a tough fight but this is what I am in the sport for.

“Erica is a top fighter, but I feel in great shape and in a great frame of mind, and I cannot wait for May 25.”

Jessica McCaskill – WBC Super Lightweight Champion

“This is a huge fight and one I am so excited for.

“Jessica put in a great performance winning her world title and I expect a really tough fight on May 25.

I think that I have the edge in terms of experience, having boxed for world titles many times, but I know that Jessica is on the rise and will be motivated for this fight so I expect a really hard night.”

Anahi Sanchez – WBA Super Lightweight Champion

Interestingly enough, both women share a common opponent in Katie Taylor. Sanchez lost by unanimous decision in October 2017, while McCaskill suffered the same fate three months later.
