Joseph Parker Is Facing The Dangerous Martin Bakole
One-time WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (35-3, 23KO) is taking a big risk by facing the dangerous Martin Bakole (21-1, 16KO). He should wait for IBF champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois to get better.
The boxing world is buzzing, as The Ring Magazine reported that Parker will face Bakole after Dynamite has fallen ill. The New Zealander’s WBO interim belt is on the line along with a title shot against the tough-as-nails Bakole on February 22.
HE SHOULD WAIT TO FIGHT THE CHAMPION
It has taken Parker almost seven years to get back into title contention since losing the WBO title to Anthony Joshua in 2018. During the journey back up the mountain he picked two significant victories over one-time WBC champion Deontay Wilder and top contender Zhieli Zhang.
At this point, a title fight is all that matters. So in this author’s opinion, team Parker should advise their fighter to sit this one out and wait. Taking on such a dangerous opponent like Bakole on such short notice could be a disastrous decision.
A DANGEROUS OPPONENT
Several fans and pundits inside the boxing community view Bakole as the boogeyman of the heavyweight division. In his last outing, he put on an impressive performance in the stoppage against top contender Jared Anderson in 2024. Then top contenders Agit Kabayel and Zhieli Zhang passed on fighting the man from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This is the chance that Bakole has been waiting for cause a title shot will be next. It is worth mentioning that Parker has not lost a fight in Saudi Arabia under the Riyadh Season banner.
Parker vs Bakole is now the most intriguing fight on the card.
