Is Josh Taylor Prepared for Welterweight and Terence Crawford?
After being awarded a very generous split decision victory to retain all four belts and his undisputed junior welterweight status, Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor (19-0, 13KOs) is ready to test himself at welterweight.
In a very lackluster performance against previously unbeaten mandatory challenger Jack “El Gato” Catterall (26-1, 13KOs), where he was dropped in round eight and consistently beat to the punch, Taylor claims he is ready to move up in weight.
In the aftermath of his very controversial victory, he spoke with Behind The Gloves about a move to welterweight and a possible showdown with WBO champion Terence Crawford.
“Off the back of that performance [against Catterall], I’m pretty sure he’s [Crawford] thinking that’s easy work, you know? And so would I, be thinking that if I was watching myself tonight?”
Obviously, the majority of boxing fans and pundits feel that Taylor lost the fight. However, officially, he won. With that being said, this performance didn’t give many people hope of him moving up to welterweight and providing a legitimate challenge for Crawford.
Still a talented fighter to be respected, Taylor needs to look significantly better in his next fight to erase the imagery of his putrid performance. Especially if he wants to have a chance to compete with one of the best in the business!
