Hearn Advises Joshua to Hold Off On Dubois Rematch
Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn wants two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (28-4, 25KO) to hold off on rematching with IBF champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (22-2, 21KO). Joshua should ignore Hearn’s advice or come under heavy scrutiny if they don’t attempt to pursue a rematch.
The boxing world is still buzzing over the Dynamite’s victory over Joshua on September 21. Boxing fans are still shocked at the way Dubois manhandled the two-time champion en route to scoring a fifth-round stoppage.
GOOD OR BAD ADVICE?
While speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, Hearn revealed that there wasn’t a rematch clause as previously thought. However, he believes Joshua would be best served fighting two-time champion Tyson Fury, who has an upcoming rematch with against Oleksandr Usyk.
“My advice is don’t do anything until December 21, Usyk against Fury. If Tyson Fury loses that fight, you set up a big fight with Anthony Joshua. If Tyson Fury wins that fight he could make a voluntary defense against Anthony Joshua for the unified world heavyweight championship.”
The reality is Joshua has to rematch Dubois. Fury and Dynamite fight under Frank Warren’s Queensberry promotional banner. He wouldn’t hesitate to make the undisputed showdown for a huge amount of cash providing Fury is victorious in the rematch.
Given how the two-time unified champion was thoroughly beaten it would be tough to sell a Fury versus Joshua showdown. The consensus of the public opinion is that perhaps AJ doesn’t have it anymore. Thus, why does he need to rematch Dubois or risk being heavily criticized by fans?
