Gallegos Wants A Title Shot In 2025 After Stopping Alvarez
In a junior lightweight battle, amateur standout Kaipo Gallegos (7-0-1, 5KO) got the stoppage against Iron Alvarez (15-3, 11KO).
The young lion stalked forward, throwing punches in bunches. He attacked the body early with hard hooks followed by the right hand.
When they were at close quarters, he repeatedly landed painful shots to the body. Gallegos did a good job of working the angles by maintaining proper foot placement.
Alvarez’s experience was a factor momentarily after landing hard right hands. He even halted the momentum of Gallegos with counter-left hooks.
The undefeated fighter worked behind the jab and couldn’t miss with counter-left hands. He boxed beautifully, switching from offense to defense with ease. In addition, he finished every offensive surge with body shots.
After watching Alvarez take repeated hard shots without returning fire, the referee stopped the contest in the seventh round. Although this author feels it was a premature stoppage, it is worth mentioning that Alvarez’s legs were unstable momentarily.
During the post-fight interview, the 18-year-old Gallegos called for a world title shot in 2025.
