Khan To Make September Return

Aim appears to be Khan/Brook shootout coming up

Amir Khan will be returning to the ring on September 8th in Birmingham, England. A press conference is set to take place tomorrow with Khan’s opponent in attendance. Who will Khan be facing?

A lot of speculation swirling on who it may be that Khan will face and the rumors have Samuel Vargas as a possible opponent. Vargas is a native of Colombia the now resides in Canada. He’s a fighter that’s not known for his power and has suffered defeat each time he has taken a step up in class.

Vargas has been in the ring with IBF welterweight Titlist Errol Spence Jr where he suffered a fourth round TKO. He has also been in the ring with former welterweight champion Danny Garcia. Vargas suffered a seventh round TKO in that bout.

He last fought a few weeks ago, where he battled to a majority draw against Mauro Maximiliano Godoy. If Vargas is truly Khan’s opponent it will be somewhat disappointing, as it will be viewed as bout to make the Bolton native look good.

Khan scored a first round TKO over Phil Lo Greco earlier this year after returning to the ring from a nearly two year layoff. If he does face Vargas you can clearly see that the likely plan is to match Khan against Kell Brook in a highly anticipated UK matchup. Brook who will be returning to the ring in July will be facing Brandon Cook.

If the plan is to have both guys active with opponents made to make them look good, in hopes to have a even better build up to their matchup? Both men have thrown names like Jarrett Hurd and Terence Crawford as possible opponents. They would clearly make the best payday facing each other.

If Vargas is announced as the opponent then perhaps we are one step closer to Brook and Khan to finally meet.
