Kovalev Wants Immediate Alvarez Rematch

Sergey Kovalev exercises his rematch clause to face Eleider Alvarez again.

This may come as a surprise to many who were expecting Kovalev to take some time off and recuperate. Well, the former champion has other plans. In the first go-round, Alvarez connected with a beautifully placed right hand that floored Kovalev.

Two knockdowns later, the fight was waved off as the referee clearly had seen enough. From the beginning of the fight you could tell that this was going to be competitive. Alvarez was able to weather the storm in the fourth round and, well you know the rest.

It’ll be interesting to see what adjustments Kovalev makes in the sequel to try and reclaim his title. History has told us that fighters trying to comeback from a brutal knockout loss in rematches don’t usually fare well.

  1. Big mistake by Kovalev. If there is any chance of him coming back it would be after taking time off to recover from the brutal ko. It was clear after only four rounds with Alverez that Kovalev tiring. You would think Kathy Duva would know better.
