Dennis Lebedev has found an opponent for his September 7 return
He’ll be taking on Hizni Altunkaya (30-2 17 KOs) according to a report by Ring Polska. The former WBA and IBF champion hasn’t been in action since defeating Mark Flanagan last year.
The 38 year old was the WBA “super” champion, but was stripped of that title after inactivity due to injury. He was later relegated as the champion in recess.
This would guarantee him an immediate shot at the new WBA champion. Oleksandr Usyk holds all the titles in the division after defeating Murat Gassiev in the finals of the WBSS.
His opponent, Altunkaya, is coming off a loss at the hands of Beibut Shumenov for the WBA “regular” title. Altunkaya is currently ranked #9 inside the WBA rankings.
This seems to be a winnable fight for the aging but powerful Lebedev. It’ll be interesting to see how he looks after being out of the ring for a year.
