Lennox Lewis takes Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn to task!

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged current unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua to fight Deontay Wilder.

In recent months, the legend has been vocal about Joshua needing to take the challenge. He also points out that as the A-side it’s primarily their responsibility to get the fight done. Lewis makes it clear that Joshua hunt Wilder for his WBC belt as much as he hunted Charles Martin for his IBF title.

It’s been very frustrating waiting for an announcement regarding this fight over the past year. Many insiders are perplexed as to why this fight isn’t a priority, being that it’s the kind of mega-fight the sport can benefit from.

While boxing as a whole has been relegated to second tier status in recent years, this fight would actually gain international mainstream coverage. As it stands now both fighters appear to be looking at different paths for early 2019.

Wilder is in negotiations for another rematch with Tyson Fury. Meanwhile, Joshua seems to be set on a rematch with Dillian Whyte.

Lewis has been a consistent voice of reason pointing out how the potential fight builds the legacy of both fighters. As an ambassador of boxing, he is once again showing class and respect for the sport as a whole.

As fans, let’s hope that his pleas don’t fall on deaf ears!
